5 trips where I (mostly) ignored the food

Hello Reader!

Here are some of my favorite trips where the activities were the main event, not the meal. If you are looking for travel inspiration that involves a little more moving and a little less chewing, here are five of awesome ones.

P.S. I'm changing how I do the monthly newsletters! I figured doing stories in themes of travel, food and recipes would be more useful than my general monthly updates (I did include some wins at the end), but please let me know if you want the updates. :)

Hiking History in Turkey

When I visited Cappadocia, I knew I had to see more than just the hot air balloons. I hopped on the Green Tour which is a full-day adventure that takes you deep into the region’s history.

We explored the Derinkuyu Underground City which goes eight levels deep into the earth. It is mind-blowing to think people lived down there. We also hiked through the Ihlara Valley which was a great way to burn off all the food I’d been eating. It’s a long day but seeing the ancient rock-cut churches makes it totally worth it.

Chasing Clouds in Costa Rica

My first time in Costa Rica was an absolute dream for nature lovers. I did a 5-day road trip that took me from the bustle of San Jose to the misty magic of the Monteverde Cloud Forest.

Driving through the winding roads to get to the cloud forest is an adventure in itself because the air is so fresh and everything is incredibly green. I also visited the Arenal Volcano area where you can relax in natural hot springs. It is the perfect mix of adventure and chilling out.

Manatees and nature in Florida

Most people go to Florida for the beaches or the theme parks but West Volusia is a hidden gem for nature.

My favorite part was visiting Blue Spring State Park to see the manatees. In the winter, hundreds of them gather in the warm spring waters and you can watch them right from the boardwalk. It is such a peaceful experience. I also explored the St. Johns River which gives you a glimpse of “Old Florida” that you don’t see in the big tourist cities.

Cherry Blossom Chasing in Tokyo

Tokyo is one of my favorite food cities but visiting during Sakura season is a whole different vibe. The city turns pink and everyone is out in the parks having picnics.

I went to Shiba Park to get that iconic shot of the cherry blossoms with the Tokyo Tower in the background. It is stunning. If you are planning a trip to Japan, try to time it for spring. Just be prepared for the crowds because everyone wants that perfect photo.

Cruising Smarter, Not Harder

I love cruising because you get to wake up in a new destination every day without repacking your suitcase. But there is definitely a learning curve.

I’ve picked up a lot of tricks over the years for Holland America Line. Did you know you can order unlimited starters and desserts in the main dining room? Or that you can bring your own wine on board? Knowing these little hacks can save you money and make your trip way smoother.

Hello Reader! It feels like I barely unpacked my suitcase this month. At the end of April and the beginning of May, I spent ten days in Mexico. My visit was incredibly special because I was an invited international media guest and top content producer for Tianguis Turistico 2026. Exploring Acapulco and Michoacan I spent four days in Acapulco, one day in Taxco and four days in Michoacan. Even though I have been to Mexico before, all these destinations were completely new to me. I shared some...

Sushi in Laramie Wyoming

Hello Reader! April was an absolute whirlwind! Between filing two different taxes, traveling, hosting my sister, and transferring accounts to Wealthsimple, it has been a beautifully chaotic month. Exploring the culinary scene in Wyoming Earlier this month, I took a whirlwind trip to Laramie for the Laramie International Flavor Festival. This was my second time visiting Wyoming. Fun fact: during my first Wyoming trip in 2014, my Grand Teton National Park photo was featured by Travel + Leisure....

Hello Reader! I can't believe March is already over. On my last newsletter, I mentioned I was heading out for my first trip of the year. First trip of the year I ended up in Berkeley, California! It was my first time visiting this university town, and I had such an incredible time. It was especially meaningful because my dad actually graduated with his Master's from UC Berkeley. It was awesome to explore where he studied, and I even had him send me some old photos so I could recreate them. I...
